Polder Day pulls in the professionals

Good weather, an excellent venue and an impressive display of Herder flail systems and Conver boats, ensured success for Mastenbroek Environmental’s 2009 Polder Day.

Mastenbroek’s Chris Pett reports a turnout of over 200 visitors to the July event held at the North Level IDB’s Cross Guns Pumping Station near Thorney, Cambs.

“Polder Day allows us to set our stall in readiness for the late Summer/ Autumn trade. We have had a wonderful turnout by key IDBs from as far away as Somerset plus an increasing number of private contractors who were as interested in the Conver models, especially the Silt Pusher, as they were with the tractor mounted Herder systems.”

The Silt Pusher, literally a waterborne ‘bulldozer’, is  already very popular in Holland where they handle over a million cubic meters a year.

Visitors had the opportunity to compare the various Herder heavy duty, multifunction tool carriers at work. Most interest focused on the new Rapier MBK 180, a very compact machine with effective 180 degree, two sided operation, an impressive 7.6m reach plus up-close hedge cutting capability. Because the kingpin is mounted off-centre, operators benefit from close range hedge trimming on the left hand side and maximum reach for bank cutting on the right hand side (or vice versa).

Polder Day has become the drainage industry’s major working event of the year focusing on environmental management systems for waterways and dikes. This was  Mastenbroek’s biggest live demonstration to date with 7 tractors, an excavator, 2 Conver weed boats with cutter/ rake attachments, the silt pusher and also amphibian plus a wide range of attachments. Besides mower heads and baskets, an arm mounted, high volume (6000 lpm), low pressure pump created an eye catching ‘water feature’. Then of course there was Mastenbroek’s ever popular hog roast!
