“Not a spanner or an oil leak”
Stringent wildlife protection regulations mean that contractors must use flails more intensively over less weeks and need reliable, user-friendly kit.
Laneham Internal Drainage Board maintains 120 miles of dike from the Trent to Gainsborough with a single tractor. In 2005 they switched to the Herder Grenadier BK 240X flail arm and foreman Arthur Hoyland reports 1000 hours in its first season without the need of a spanner or a single oil leak.
Herder’s latest mowing arm has been developed exclusively for the JCB Fastrac and is designed for both left and right side mowing. Laneham IDB operate a JCB Fastrac 3170. The speed of the Fastrac combined to the flexibility of the Grenadier successfully meet their demanding schedule for dike maintenance.
The Grenadier BK 240X features a 30 degrees bias on the left hand side positioning the flail head within driver vision, eliminating the need for the operator to look over his shoulder. Operation is by a fully proportional electronic joystick control with electro hydraulic float system which eliminates the need for excessive adjustment. Once a job is completed the arm folds neatly behind the cab permitting fast transportation to the next location,
Herder’s Grenadier BK 240X is available with a choice of flail mowers up to 180 cm width, together with weed mowing buckets and highway maintenance attachments. The Grenadier has a standard arm reach of 7.5m with the unique combination of a forward slewing arm, electro hydraulic float system and joystick control.
Pump capacity at 1000 rpm PTO maintains 120 litres/min for attachments with 55 litres/min for controls. Attachment operating pressure is 250 bar, which provides 68 hp at the flail head motor to ensure effective operation on riverbanks and verges.
The JCB mounted Grenadier BK 240X will operate with a full range of attachments for bank, verge and hedge maintenance |
